Did you know that PM of England has come up with a school pandemic catch-up plan?

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of England has announced an "Education Recovery Commissioner" to oversee a school pandemic catch-up plan. This is being undertaken essentially to help schools in England catch up from the disruption of the pandemic. So, here is presenting a few facts you need to know about this ‘Catch-Up’ plan created by the British government. They are as follows:

The choice of  Education Recovery Commissioner:

Sir Kevan Collins, who was until recently head of the Education Endowment Foundation, which examines evidence for what works in education and, who was also a former teacher who went on to be the director of children's services and chief executive of Tower Hamlets, east London., has been chosen by the British government as the recovery commissioner of the school pandemic catch-up plan. He will have to develop "a long-term plan" for helping pupils make up for lost learning. According to Johnson the plan will ensure that "no child will be left behind" because of the pandemic. Furthermore, the announcement also says getting education back on track and fully opening schools is a "national priority".

The idea behind the formation of the School Pandemic Catch-up plan created by the British government:

Collins as the commissioner of the plan will have to oversee efforts to help schools recover from the disruption of the pandemic and lockdowns, which has seen pupils studying from home and exams cancelled for over two academic years. The announcement of the plan states "School closures have had a huge impact on children's learning," says the announcement from Downing Street and the Department for Education. And Sir Kevan will lead an effort to help children "make up their learning over the course of this Plan".

The School Pandemic Catch-up plan a ‘Top Priority’ for the British government:

Johnson says that the plan developed will ensure that "no child will be left behind" because of the pandemic. More importantly, this idea is also being implemented in order to put education back on track and to make reopening schools a "national priority". The announcement from Downing Street and the Department for Education of this strategy states that "School closures have had a huge impact on children's learning," As per Boris "Our top priority is to get schools open again," He further adds that "Once they are, we will make sure that teachers and students are equipped with the resources and the time they need to make up for lost learning."

Tutoring services included in the Catch-up funding plan announced by the British government:

The catch-up plan has been allotted a huge fund of £1bn, which also includes subsidies for tutoring services. England's Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, said Sir Kevan would be a "tremendous asset to young people, their families, and everyone working in education, who have my lasting gratitude for their efforts to support young people throughout the pandemic". Moreover, Ofsted, England's education watchdog, has warned of a "significant" loss of learning during the pandemic, particularly affecting the disadvantaged. A study from the National Foundation for Educational Research has also found primary-school reading and maths levels were below where they had been three years ago, and hence this catch-up plan has been created by the British government.
